Seven impressive finalists have been selected as part of the 2024 Water Minister’s Climate Innovation Challenge.
The challenge encourages those within the water sector to look for new opportunities to address the impacts of climate change.
It’s also a great opportunity for those within the industry to share ideas and collaborate as we look for ways to improve water security across the state.
The 7 finalists in this round of the challenge include:
- Nutrient Sponge Booms for Algae Control Using Biochar in Water Supply Systems – North East Water
- Nanobubble Oxygenation - Gippsland Water
- Co-production of green hydrogen and oxidant from direct solar radiation – South East Water
- Sustainable Water Infrastructure - Footprint Transformation (SWIFT) Business models – Yarra Valley Water
- Sewer Heat Recovery and Heat Study – Barwon Water
- Enhanced climate resilience through hemp production using recycled water – Central Highlands Water
- Maximising the Potential of Biogas – Barwon Water
The prize pool for this round of the challenge is $255,000 and can be awarded to one or multiple submissions.
The annual competition is a collaboration between the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action (DEECA), the Intelligent Water Networks (IWN) and the Minister for Water.
The winners will be announced on 5 December 2024.
