Heart Morass in the Gippsland Lakes

Community members are being encouraged to put their hand up and join the Gippsland Lakes Coordinating Committee to help coordinate projects and activities to improve the health of the Gippsland Lakes.

The committee is looking to recruit 5 community members who have knowledge in waterway management, natural resources management, environmental science or conservation, or are Traditional Owners or members of recreational water groups.

They will join an independent chairperson and representatives from Victorian public sector agencies that have responsibility in the management of the lakes on the committee.

The committee will oversee investment of $6 million over the next four years to continue improving the health of the Lakes through on-ground management activities and community engagement.

The Gippsland Lakes are Ramsar-listed wetlands recognised for significant coastal wetland values and features, including vital habitat for migratory bird species.

The site also supports nationally and internationally threatened wetland species, waterbird breeding and fish spawning sites.

The Gippsland Lakes Coordinating Committee was formed in 2015 to prioritise and oversee investment in community and agency projects that focus on improving the environmental health of the Gippsland Lakes.

Expressions of interest for the Gippsland Lakes Coordinating Committee close on Wednesday 5 March 2025. To apply visit Join a public board.
